Summer in the Hamptons Always Closes With a Flourish. Make Sure to Celebrate by Attending One (or More!) of These Amazing Events
When summering in the Hamptons, there’s no shortage of scenes that locals or visitors can frequent. The deliciously diverse food scene, where $100 lobster rolls share space with $1 oysters. The varied and distinctive retail scene, which winds itself through the many towns and villages up and down Long Island’s eastern tip. And we must not forget the whole point of venturing out to the Hamptons in the first place: the incredible beach scene.
But those are meant to fill your calendar day-to-day. When seeking out something a bit more festive, the collective energies of the Hamptons go to great lengths to ensure you never want for entertainment.
For those looking to fill their schedules through the end of the August, here are five events you won’t want to miss out on.
1. 71st Artists and Writers Annual Charity Softball Game - August 17 - East Hampton
Billing itself as the Hamptons longest-running charity event, the venerable game is the place to see and be seen while playing a little ball. If you think this is merely a match-up between local scribes and thespians, think again—Alec Baldwin, Bill Clinton, Christie Brinkley, Kristin Davis, Matthew Broderick, Lori Singer, Yogi Berra, and Rudy Giuliani are among its famous alumni.
2. 24th Annual Ellen’s Run 5k Race / Walk Day - August 18 - Southampton
Run to support The Ellen Hermanson Foundation and the fight against breast cancer. The 5K race and walk also help Ellen’s Well, which provides free support and services to survivors of breast cancer.
3. 18th Annual Box Art Auction to Benefit East End Hospice - August 24 - East Hampton
Head to East Hampton to enjoy creative works art for a great cause. The Annual Box Art Auction displays and sells masterpieces from local artists, auctioning them off in both silent and live auctions. The catch: all the art has a cigar or wine box incorporated in some way. All proceeds benefit the East End Hospice.
4. 6th Annual Summerfest Culinary Arts Festival Benefit - August 29 - Southampton
Benefiting the Southampton Arts Center, the Culinary Arts Fest is one of the premier events in the Hamptons and brings together the East End’s most charitable givers and notable chefs for a night of great fun and even better food.
5. 73rd Annual Shinnecock Indian Powwow - August 30 to September 2 - Southampton
Closing out the festive summer calendar is the benefit for the Shinnecock Tribe and Shinnecock Presbyterian Church. A number of family-friendly activities and demonstrations are planned over the three-day festival, including arts and crafts, native food, a sunset fire lighting, and drum and dance contests.
