Iconic Landmarks of the Hamptons (And the Best Time to Go)

Don’t Miss These Hamptons Destinations

The Lighthouse

Since 1969, Montauk Lighthouse has stood as a national historical landmark and one of the Hampton’s most famous features. Located at the Hamptons’ easternmost tip, the lighthouse is a great place to visit year-round. However, for the best views and weather, visit during the summer. There, you can walk through an exhibit on the importance of sharks for the ocean, as well as an art exhibit on local sea creatures. This iconic lighthouse can be seen in movies such as The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and is a great location for your wedding photos.

Gosman's Dock

Located on Montauk Harbor, Gosman’s Dock Seafood Restaurant features some of The Hamptons’ finest dining. Providing 360-degree views of the harbor, Gosman’s is open for lunch and dinner and is a great place for the entire family. With amazing views like this, anytime is a great time to enjoy their famous lobster rolls—especially during the warmer months, when you can dine outside near the water.

Lavender by the Bay

Since 2002, Lavender by the Bay in East Marion has been New York’s premier lavender farm. Even though it is located a bit of a drive out of the Hamptons, the lavender farm offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in the area. The best time to visit is during the large French bloom, which usually occurs during the first two weeks of July. Of course, the blooms depend on Mother Nature, so keep a lookout on their website to time your visit perfectly.

Pollock-Krasner House

Many notable people have passed through the Hamptons through the years. Jackson Pollock and wife Lee Krasner spent a lot of time in a barn-style house that is now known as the Pollock-Krasner House. The house and studio are an art lover’s paradise—its rich history holds evidence that paintings like Blue Poles were painted within its very walls. Educational tours allow visitors the chance to paint their own masterpiece in the same space Pollack would have created his. The studio is open between May and October.

Camp Hero

Camp Hero State Park is a great place to spend a day by the Atlantic. The park offers beachfront picnic areas, hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails through wooded areas, and some of the best surf-fishing around. This historical park was originally used as a military base; military installations can be seen throughout the park, paying respect to those who served as well as educating those walking by. The park is great for the entire family—including pets—and wildlife is abundant since the park is untouched by infrastructure. Fishing is open 24 hours, so you’ll never miss out on getting the catch of the day. With such great outdoor activities, the park is best visited during the spring and summer. However, if you love being active during the winter months, the park also offers cross-country skiing.
